Review:
The two female leads made the show brighter and livelier. I can totally see why they are friends. They are both crazy and hilarious!! Esp Young Seo. I love their friendship, how they are always there for each other in good, bad and crazy times. On the other hand, the two guys were so boring and stick in the mud, I sometimes wonder what they saw in them aside from their good looks. Maybe opposites do attract. Tae Moo and Sung Hoon must have found the two friends so fun and charming and so different from all the girls they’ve met.

I really liked the grandpa. I thought he would be the cool and hip grandpa since he watches Be Strong Geumhui. Yet in real life, when the time came and he found out that Hari was Geumhui, he was the same old rich grandpa stereotype that the Geumhui drama was making fun of. Did he not like her because she was average/not from a rich family? or because he was made into a fool? The story wasn’t able to fully explore this plot because there wasn’t any time. And what happened when grandpa moved to the US for treatment? I was hoping to see him and Hari have a great time together but all we heard was the grandpa approved their relationship. But that scene where Hari pushed the grandpa and he fell wasn’t funny at all.

The second leads were sometimes even better and swoonier than the main couple. I think it’s because Youngseo is so cute and expressive. But proposing after just a few months was unrealistic. I also liked that they also had some conflict /story with them being opposites and trying to understand each other. And that scene with Youngseo’s father. The cousin was hilarious!

I loved the jokes in the first few episodes. Archeopteryx. Rachel and Samantha. 🤣 Hari was so pretty as Geumhui. Taemoo must have fallen in love at first sight but stayed because he found someone who also loved food as much as he did. I actually cried when they were in the Melomance concert and Hari was crying because of Minwoo. Speaking of Minwoo, I actually like the actor so I couldn’t hate him even if he did took advantage of Hari’s crush on him for years. But I still liked how they had closure and some potential friendship in the future.

The ending felt rushed. Maybe because 12 episodes were not enough to fully explore and resolve the conflicts about the grandpa and office romance (which would have been a good story to tell).

Rating: 8.5 (8 for the story + 0.5 because this show made me feel lighter)

Review
I didn’t realize when I started watching that this is a fantasy drama but episodes 1 and 2 were interesting and I loved the actors who played the younger versions of Haram and Cheon Gi, the background story was enough to get invested in the couple.

I loved the paintings, it was so amazing that simple brushes can make these fantastic masterpieces. I did take big brush and small brush calligraphy when I was in school so I know how to feels like to write using these brushes. It is hard and my penmanship was bad so I can’t imagine having to actually draw these kinds of paintings. The best episodes were the painting competition, although it was still unbelievable that a young inexperienced painter can win against everyone else when her butterfly painting was not even that great to be honest.

I loved the Baekyu Painters Society and how they always had Cheongi’s back, esp her two painter friends. And the friendship between Haram, Prince Yang Myeong and Cheon Gi.

The story got messy and a lot of things were unexplained. More than halfway and I still didn’t get the reason for the ring, or why they need to seal the devil inside the painting (because the drama said so), how Cheon Gi is the divine painter (when it turns out without Hwacha’s power her painting was useless so what was the point?), why Joohyang was still alive when his body is supposedly rotting away, the king knew all about Haram’s plan and never told him the truth (rendering his whole life’s revenge plot unnecessary). And the whole nonsense about Haram’s grandfather. And what about Maehyang and her mysterious hatred against the royal family? It was never revealed. The whole showdown with the devil, Samsin and Ho Ryeong was also anti-climactic. Even the death of Haram’s bodyguard wasn’t that memorable.

The ending kind of redeemed the entire story since they get their happy ever after, but still don’t understand why they decided to live in an area so faraway from the city. The last scene between the two princes, at first I though the story is incomplete, now thinking back I guess they are trying to say that life goes on.

Haram was also blind for 20 years but he is extraordinarily aware of his surroundings that he doesn’t look blind at all! He looks straight at the person he is talking to, he fights against the soldiers when blind, he can interpret the stars without seeing them. It was too weird.

Rating: 7/10 (i should give a lower rating but the four leads were so pretty)

Review
I love Seulgi that’s why i watched this drama. At first I could not understand why Nanhee likes Segun. Apart from his good looks, he just seemed so shallow and always talking about looking for pretty girls. When they started dating i couldn’t really feel happy for Nanhee, and is probably the way she feels – because she knows he does not like the real her, but the pretty version of her. I partly also cannot understand Nanhee. I know she thinks she is not pretty enough but how can you be confident of yourself if she always look that way. She is actually looks alright, even cute, but her hair is awful (why does she keep wearing her hair up and her bangs are too creepily curled) and her clothes are so boring. let’s face it – not everything is about personality, you need to have both looks and personality to succeed in today’s society. I actually like Taehyun – he is not as cute as Segun but he sees the real Nanhee and likes her the way she is, without the ring and pretty looks and clothes.
On the other side, Segun started off as really shallow but as the episode progresses, i realized that he isn’t really that shallow, he is just looking for that connection, which he thought was the looks but as he dated Nanhee, he realized that what he was looking for was a girl he can be with – who he can talk to and supports him, and the other way around. I loved that when he started dating Mijoo, he realized that and started looking for the real Nanhee. and he is the one who was able to bring Nanhee out of her shell and told her she is beautiful and she should be confident. that’s what love can do to both people, they bring out the best in each other. i love what Nanhee said to Segun about model vs girlfriend. Model is someone you bring in front of everyone, but girlfriend is the one you can cry to backstage (or something like that).
I also love how we also saw Miju have a panic disorder. So it turns out even pretty people have their own problems and insecurities. and We need friends who will be there for you and support you – gives you the strength to go on with your life.

I loved the overall message that this drama tried to show, and it’s a great reminder for everyone to not just look at external beauty but also look at inner beauty, or you might miss out on a good thing.
